Monster day for Cubs prospect Eloy Jimenez in Futures Game

SAN DIEGO — Eloy Jimenez didn’t have any doubt about how good of a catch he made in the All-Star Futures Game on Sunday afternoon.

“That is the craziest catch I’ve made,” the Cubs prospect said.

The seventh-inning grab, in which he jumped high to snag a foul ball off the bat of Philadelphia farmhand Dylan Cozens, then held on and managed to not perilously flip over the railing, was one of several highlight-reel moments delivered by Jimenez in an 11-3 victory by the World team over the U.S. team at Petco Park.

Jimenez also drove in four runs and had two hits, including a three-run home run during a seven-run, ninth-inning rally. The homer, a no-doubter off a 95-mph Ryne Stanek fastball that smashed off the face of the third deck of the Western Metal Supply Co. building, left the park quickly.

“I was just looking for something up and I saw it and that happened,” Jimenez said. “Very fun. Very, very fun.

“It was crazy, crazy.”
