Northbrook native Jason Kipnis excited for Blackhawks' Game 6

The schedule-makers -- and weather -- did Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis a mighty big favor.

The Cleveland Indians second baseman and Northbrook, Ill. native is back in Chicago Monday night for what was supposed to be a game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, though that was washed out by heavy rain and severe thunderstorms across the area. Kipnis, who said he usually makes it to five or so Blackhawks games during baseball's offseason, won't have to miss what could be the Blackhawks' first Stanley Cup clincher at home since 1938.

"They’ve been one of the most fun teams to watch the last five to seven years, and hopefully five to seven years to come," Kipnis said. "So I’m really excited for tonight."

Kipnis hadn't debuted in the majors when the Blackhawks won the Cup in 2010, and was in Baltimore with the Indians for 2013's comeback clincher against Boston. He heard from friends about the massive celebrations around Chicago for those wins, but hopes to experience it for himself Monday night.

"I’ve seen the pictures, I know exactly what it’s going to be like," Kipnis said. "The crowds are going to be shoulder to shoulder, hopefully there’s no cars overturned or fires or anything. But it should be rowdy, rain or in good weather, it’ll get people out on the streets."
