Theo gets ‘Curb' treatment, Hoyer reacts to nose scratch after NLDS close-ups

The cameras provided a few Extreme Close-Ups of the Cubs’ front office on Tuesday night that would have made Wayne and Garth proud.

Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer and Jason McLeod all received significant airtime during Fox’s broadcast of Game 4 of the National League Divisional Series.

Epstein, the team’s president of baseball operations, was the focus of one instant classic two innings before his club staged an epic, four-run rally that lifted it to an improbable 6-5 win over the Giants at AT&T Park. The slow zoom in on Epstein’s face, his thoughts perhaps racing about the potential implications of an upcoming elimination Game 5 in Chicago, created the kind of GIF for which the internet was invented, complete with the theme song to ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm.’

Hoyer scratched his nose during another shot from Game 3 on Monday. Naturally, the trio heard their face time from their friends and family, Hoyer said at Thursday’s workout.

“I got a lot of screen shots from various friends and I know Theo did and I know my wife did,” Hoyer said. “You never know what position you’re going to be in or where your hand is going to be. You never know. You try to tell yourself the cameras might be on and then you forget every time. You get kind of caught up in the emotion.”
