The Chicago Fire announced Wednesday that they acquired the rights to Colombian defender Yamith Cuesta. The trade with Chivas USA included an exchange for a 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft selection.

The 21-year-old made 15 appearances with Chivas from 2009-10 and was also a part of Colombias Under-20 national team in 2008 and scored a goal in three appearances. In 2008, he appeared in 34 games for Expresso Rojo in the Colombian second division.

Fire technical director Frank Klopas told TSN, Yamith is a gifted defender with size, speed and strong defensive skills. Our defense will benefit from bringing in a young player with experience both in MLS and his native Colombia.

Cuesta was officially added to the Fire roster and is training this week.
