Matt Polster started for U.S. Soccer's Olympic qualifying team during the Americans' 1-1 draw in Colombia on Friday.

The Chicago Fire midfielder played all 90 minutes in the match, which was the first of a home-and-home playoff with the Colombians. The winner advances to the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Luis Gil scored in the fifth minute to give the Americans a surprising lead in Barranquilla, Colombia. After that it was all Colombia, with the hosts piling on the pressure before finally drawing level with a penalty kick in the 68th minute.

Pulling out a draw on the road is a positive result for the U.S., which endured a hostile crowd and wave after wave of attack to hold on for the tie.

The U.S. will host Colombia at Toyota Stadium, home of FC Dallas, on Tuesday in the return leg. As a result of the away draw, any win or a scoreless draw at home will be good enough for the U.S. to qualify for the Olympics.

Fire teammate Brandon Vincent is also on the team, but was not a part of the matchday roster.
