Why one Sky player has Bugs Bunny tattooed on her leg

Bugs Bunny and Chicago basketball have gone together ever since the iconic rabbit starred alongside Michael Jordan in "Space Jam."

But another pro baller has brought Bugs back to a Chicago court.

Sky center Erika de Souza has a tattoo of Bugs Bunny on her leg, one of many facts uncovered in a recent Red Eye feature that told the stories of Sky players' ink.

According to de Souza, "Bugs Bunny" is her nickname in her native Brazil — "Everybody in Brazil called me Bugs Bunny there," she told Red Eye's Chris Sosa. "Because I'm tall and have long legs? I don't know." — and that's why she transferred the rabbit's image to her leg.

Also, Bugs turned out to be one of the better Looney Tunes when it came to hoops in "Space Jam," so the basketball connection is there.

Sosa's piece discusses the meanings behind many more tattoos. Elena Delle Donne honored her sister with her lone tattoo, while Cappie Pondexter and Tamera Young each boast more than 100 tattoos apiece.

The Sky open their season against the Connecticut Sun on Saturday in Rosemont.
