I think I've found the perfect metaphor for Gavin Floyd trade rumors:
"IT CAN'T BE TURNED OFF!"
Maybe there's actually something behind the latest rumor linking Floyd to the Blue Jays, because Toronto does appear to actively be seeking another starter. And Morosi does report that there has been "a dialogue" between the Sox and Jays, who have already worked out three trades in the last year.
But it's difficult to see the Sox parting ways with Floyd at this point. There isn't anyone in the organization who could be counted on to capably fill his void, and the Sox haven't fallen out of contention yet.
Maybe these rumors will pick up steam in June if the Sox are well out of the playoff picture. But while there have been exactly zero real games played yet, Floyd won't be going anywhere.
