NEW YORK --- Philip Humber is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

Humber, who went on the disabled list on June 22 with a right elbow flexor strain, isnt certain how many rehab starts he might require before he could return. For now hes only focused on his first start.

But Humber, who is 3-4 with a 6.01 ERA in 12 starts this season, is ready to test his elbow.

It feels good right now, Humber said. But there are still some hurdles to cross as far as pitches Im throwing. Definitely when you get in the game its a little bit different. Im looking forward to testing it out. So far so good. Everything is progressing.

Humber said he hasnt had any setbacks since he was placed on the DL. At the time of his injury, Humber was still able to play catch. He has also thrown off the mound several times in the past eight days.

I didnt take that long without being on the mound, Humber said. I felt good. I felt comfortable the times off the mound since Ive pitched last.
