The Interview: Derek Holland tries to quench Mike Pelfrey's thirst in White Sox dugout

TORONTO -- Derek Holland’s dugout interview skills and Mike Pelfrey’s crossed eyes response offered a glimpse into the relaxed atmosphere currently permeating throughout the White Sox clubhouse.

Shortly after Pelfrey exited one of his best starts of the season on Saturday, Holland awaited in the dugout with a microphone in hand for an impromptu interview. While the cameras may not have captured any sound, Pelfrey’s expressions said it all, especially when Holland tried to feed the starting pitcher a Fanta. Pelfrey — who pitched six innings of one-run ball in a 5-2 White Sox win — said the highlight was when Holland finished the faux interview with a “back to you.”

“It was pretty good,” Pelfrey said. “Did a little dugout piece when we got done. It was pretty funny. Keeping it loose. Guys coming in the dugout after, makes it fun.

“My time here has been great. When you go to new places, you don’t necessarily know how it’s going to be. These guys in here are great, they’re fun and have fun. Coming here was probably a blessing in disguise.”
