White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko finished fifth in the American League Most Valuable Player voting announced on Tuesday afternoon. Konerko received 130 points, placing him behind Josh Hamilton - who won the award - Miguel Cabrera, Robinson Cano, and Jose Bautista.

Konerko, 34, had a career year in 2010, recording career highs in OBP (.393), SLG (.584), and OPS (.977). He led the Sox in essentially every important statistical category, including home runs (39), RBI (111), and batting average (.312) as well as the three categories listed previously.

His fifth place finish in the MVP voting is the highest for any White Sox since outfielder Jermaine Dye also finished fifth in 2006. The fifth place finish is also a new career-high for Konerko, who finished sixth in MVP voting in 2005 after he led the White Sox to their first World Series championship since 1917.

The last Sox to win the AL MVP award was Frank Thomas, who won the award in both 1993 and the strike-shortened 1994 season.
