Kyle Long, Bryce Harper support Adam LaRoche on Twitter

Adam LaRoche retired suddenly from the White Sox this week as his quick departure from baseball left many stunned.

The oddly-timed retirement of LaRoche surged into a national talking point on Wednesday as the 36-year-old LaRoche retired in-part over a dispute with White Sox vice president Kenny Williams over how much LaRoche's 14-year-old son, Drake, could be in the team's clubhouse.

Drake LaRoche was a fixture in the White Sox clubhouse last season — and Drake spent time with LaRoche in other clubhouses before coming to the White Sox — but Williams is attempting to implement a new policy that would limit the amount of time the younger LaRoche could be with his father.

Rather than take issue with the new policy, Adam LaRoche decided that retiring — and leaving $13 million on the table this season — was the right thing to do.

The issue of kids in the clubhouse became a talking point on social media on Wednesday, as some athletes like Chicago Bears guard Kyle Long and Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper sided with LaRoche on Twitter. Long has the unique experience of being a child growing up with a professional athlete as a father while Harper, the reigning MLB MVP, is a former teammate of LaRoche's in Washington.
