Peavy looks to extend Sox walk-less streak

Share

Friday marked the sixth time since the deadball era (or at least from 1918 to present) that the White Sox didn't walk a batter on opening day. And Jake Peavy is just the guy to continue the streak to begin 2012.

Peavy started 2011 by not issuing a walk until his 55th batter faced (Ian Kinsler, ironically, who was the first batter of his third start). Peavy went on to walk just one over his first four 2011 starts (25.0 IP), and finished the season with a career low walk rate of 1.9 BB9 IP.

On the other hand, Peavy is 0-2 with an 8.80 ERA in 15 13 innings pitched (with 8 BB and 4 HR allowed) career vs the Rangers.

On yet a third hand:

- Francisco Liriano entered his no-hitter against the White Sox with a 9.13 ERA
- Brad Penny entered a 7.1 IP, 1 hit performance against the Sox with an 8.44 ERA

So you never know.

Below is a list of the six White Sox walk-free Opening Days along with how long the streaks stretched:
