White Sox: Alexei Ramirez's slump has carried into the field

Alexei Ramirez’s slump has hurt the White Sox two-fold.

White Sox manager Robin Ventura wants the shortstop to at least pick it up on the defensive end if he continues to struggle at the plate.

Ramirez entered Friday with a .226/.246/.301 slash line with two homers and 24 RBIs in 252 plate appearances. But the 2014 Gold Glove finalist has also been off in the field, where he ranks 25th of 27 among shortstops in Defensive Runs Saved with minus-7.

“You go through points and everybody goes through points where it might not be as good as you’ve seen it before,” Ventura said. “But offensively we’ve all seen Alexei offensively, when it’s not going right it seems to slip at points out there and you have to be able to play different sides of the ball and make them separate. No matter what you’re doing offensively, look at (Carlos Sanchez). As much as he’s scuffling offensively it doesn’t go out on the field and affect that. You have to be able to separate those things. Emotionally sometimes you can’t.”
