Prior to Sunday's contest in Texas, the White Sox purchased the contract of 31-year-old infielder Rey Olmedo from Triple-A Charlotte, where he was hitting .273.340.335 with nine stolen bases. Olmedo will replace Eduardo Escobar, who was dealt to Minnesota in Saturday's Francisco Liriano trade, on the White Sox bench.

Olmedo has appeared in 198 major-league games in his professional career, with most of those coming as a member of the Cincinnati Reds in his rookie year of 2003. He hasn't played in the majors since a 27-game stint with Toronto in 2007.

In 442 career plate appearances, Olmedo has a .228.276.293 slash line. He has experience playing second base, third base and shortstop at the major-league level.
