Note the following quotes from Inside Look with Jim Thome presented by Cadillac premiering Monday, July 18 at 8:00 PM on Comcast SportsNet:

Thome on leaving Cleveland for Philadelphia

“It was tough leaving, it was very tough.  It took a long time for me to sign and leave Cleveland.  That negotiation was hard for me, I did love Cleveland, I did, and I appreciated the fact that I was drafted by them…it hit me that I wasn’t coming back…and I needed to prepare myself for a new journey.”

Thome on how baseball helped him deal with the loss of his mother:

“Being in the grind and being in baseball, we’re built to move forward, you got to play tomorrow, and I think baseball kept me to a degree like, ‘okay, you got to move on’…but you never forget, it never leaves you.  When you lose your mom, it’s one of the most difficult, emotional things you’ll ever go through.  That bond between a mother and son is just; I don’t know it’s hard to explain.  I look at my children and see my mother inside of them.”

Thome on hitting his 500th home run with the White Sox:

“It was just a special moment.  How do you ever envision hitting your 500th as a walk-off? I never did.”

Thome on the “Blackout Game”:

“I get so many people in Chicago bring up the Blackout Game, and it makes me smile.  I know we all played a major role in winning that game.  It wasn’t dominated by one guy; it was everybody that played a part in us winning that going on into the playoffs.”
