The White Sox officially announced Sunday morning that Alex Avila has been placed on the disabled list due to a right hamstring injury.

The 29-year-old catcher strained it while running from first to second base on a ground ball by Auston Jackson in the sixth inning of the White Sox 4-3 win over the Texas Rangers on Saturday afternoon.

Catcher Kevan Smith from Class AAA Charlotte has been recalled, and he will be available when the White Sox aim for a sweep of the Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Smith owns a .345 batting average with two home runs and six RBI across eight games with Charlotte this season.
