White Sox: Todd Frazier won't be in starting lineup vs. Astros

The White Sox are back on home turf, but they’ll open their series against the Houston Astros without one of their top sluggers.

Todd Frazier won’t be in the starting lineup on Tuesday due to an illness.

“Yeah, not feeling good,” said manager Robin Ventura. “He’s not starting. Hopefully he’ll feel better at some point tonight and we’ll see what happens with that.”

Tyler Saladino will play third base and Jimmy Rollins will get the start at shortstop.

Ventura didn’t rule out the possibility of Frazier coming off the bench.

“He might show up tonight. I don’t know,” said Ventura. “I know he’s not here right now, but he could make it here by tonight. …I haven’t talked to him.

“I’m not saying that he will be here, but I’m not saying that he won’t be here. I have not told him not to be here.”

It's the first time Frazier will miss a start in the 2016 campaign. Frazier is batting .228/.319/.503 and has a team-leading 12 home runs and 32 RBIs in his first season on the South Side.

The White Sox are beginning a stretch of 17 games in 16 days, including a doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians on Monday.

Ventura admits that Frazier was due for a day off, but not in a situation like this.

“I don’t think anybody wants it this way,” said Ventura. “He’s just not feeling good. He stayed home yesterday, but he’s not in any condition to play.”
