The Cubs have claimed right-hander Jairo Asencio off waivers from the Indians and have designated right-hander Michael Bowden for assignment. Asencio will be added to the team's 25-man big league roster.
In 18 relief outings with Cleveland this year, Asencio went 1-1 with a 5.96 ERA before being designated for assignment on May 28.
Bowden, who was acquired by the Cubs from the Red Sox on April 21, posted no record and a 7.45 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the Cubs this year.
