Cubs finding success against LHPs of late

The Cubs have gone from slumping vs. southpaws to being lethal vs. lefties.

Let's take a look at a breakdown of lefty starters vs Cubs this season (aside from Team W-L, stats are from starting pitchers only)

First 19 Games Last 9 Games
Team W-L: 16-3 2-7
ERA: 1.90 5.24
IP: 123.1 55.0
ER: 26 32
HR: 5 8
BAA: .219 .286

Reed Johnson and Jeff Baker are leading the charge.

Johnson has gone 7-for-16 with two doubles and a homer during the recent hot stretch, while Jeff Baker has gone 6-for-19 with only one single among his six safeties; banging out four doubles and a homer.

And the damage hasn't been done just against lesser talents either. Two of the recent wins have come against two-time Cy Young award winner Johan Santana, and the latest came this afternoon against Mark Buehrle, author of two no-hitters.

The success of late has seen the stock of Baker and Johnson rising, according to FOXSports' Ken Rosenthal, who says the two veterans could be right-handed bats off the bench for contenders.
