Cubs get good news on Marmol

MESA, Ariz. Carlos Marmol said he wasnt concerned, and his body language sent the same message: Its nothing.

But it had to be reassuring for the Cubs to find out that it really was just a cramp in Marmols right hand. An MRI revealed no significant nerve injury, a team spokesman confirmed on Wednesday.

Marmol continues to be symptom-free, and will be evaluated for a couple of days, but remains on his normal schedule.

The day before, manager Dale Sveum immediately noticed something was wrong and called for the trainer after Marmol released a pitch at HoHoKam Stadium. The sensation didnt linger, but the closer was pulled as a precaution during the seventh inning of a 6-2 loss to the Texas Rangers.

Marmol can be wild and inconsistent and dominant but hes also been extremely durable, making between 75 and 82 appearances in each of the past four seasons.
