It wasn't Ryan Dempster or Matt Garza, but the first domino for the Cubs has fallen before Tuesday's MLB non-waiver trade deadline.

The Cubs have traded Catcher Geovany Soto to the Texas Rangers for minor league pitcher Jacob Brigham.

Soto was pulled in the fifth inning of Monday night's game and was seen hugging teammates in the dugout.

In 52 games with the Cubs this season, the 29-year-old catcher was batting .199 with six homers and 14 RBI. He spent time on the disabled list earlier this year and while his .623 OPS leaves some to be desired, Soto has upside.

He won the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 2008, putting up a great .868 OPS with 23 homers and 86 RBI. He also had an .890 OPS in 2010, but struggled with a .218 average in '09 and .228 average last season.

Soto has a career .899 OPS against left-handers with a .298.395.504 line. He will provide the Rangers another veteran catcher and right-handed bat.

Brigham is a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher taken in the sixth round of the '06 draft by the Rangers. He has never climbed above Double-A, where he boasts a 5-5 record, 4.28 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 21 starts this season. He does, however, have 230 strikeouts in 238.1 innings in Double-A.
