ESPN's "Long Gone Summer" is set to premiere on Sunday, a documentary on the 1998 home run race between Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. The two battled to break Roger Maris' MLB record for homers in a single season (61), and while McGwire set the record (70), Sosa finished with a career-high of 66.
Sosa broke out offensively with the Cubs in the mid-1990s, and while he's never admitted to taking performance-enhancing drugs, his rise came during baseball's Steroid Era. Nevertheless, Sosa put himself in some elite company offensively alongside some of baseball's all-time best.
Here are 10 Sosa stats that reflect how special he was at the plate.
