The Cubs will not see Addison Russell back in the lineup at all this regular season.
Major League Baseball extended Russell's administrative leave through Sunday, according to ESPN's Jesse Rogers.
Russell was placed on administrative leave by the team last Friday when a blog written by his ex-wife, Melisa Reidy, was made public as she detailed physical, emotional and psychological abuse made throughout their marriage.
Russell's administrative leave was initially seven days, which would've expired Thursday. But the league extended it through the end of the regular season as they continue their investigation into the domestic abuse allegations.
It is not yet known whether or not Russell will be available for the postseason at all.
Cubs manager Joe Maddon said he does not believe the Russell situation is a distraction to his team as they vie for the NL Central title.
