The ring will be available Aug. 21-22 in the "Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction," according to Heritage Auctions communications director Robert Wilonsky.
The Cubs reserved the right to buy back most of the hundreds of 2016 championship rings from recipients for $1. The players, manager and coaches were exempt.
Zobrist sold the ring prior to its arrival at the auction house, Wilonsky said.
"The consigner is someone who buys and sells a lot of championship hardware," Wilonsky added. "Certainly somebody who's a legit collector in that particular field, and he says he bought it from Zobrist."

Zobrist spent four seasons with the Cubs (2016-19) and came up with one of the biggest hits in franchise history. His double in the 10th inning in Game 7 of the 2016 Fall Classic gave the Cubs a 7-6 lead.
Of course, they went on to win 8-7 to clinch their first championship in 108 years. Zobrist was named the series' MVP.
Heritage Auctions has previously sold a 1927 World Series ring presented to Herb Pennock for $203,000 in 2016 and a World Series ring presented in 2011 to Stan Musial for $191,000.
With the history behind the 2016 World Series and Zobrist's performance, it could be one of the most valuable championship rings to go on the market.
"It's certainly as unique as you think it is," Wilonsky said. "There's only one year of Chicago Cubs rings."
Cubs fans have a chance to get a look at the ring prior to it going up for auction. Heritage Auctions will bring it to Chicago at the National Sports Collectors Convention in July.
