Outfield prospect Brennen Davis is moving up the Cubs' farm system and gaining recognition for his breakout 2021 season.
MLB Pipeline unveiled its midseason top 100 prospects list this week and ranked Davis the No. 14 prospect in all of baseball.
Davis was the No. 61 prospect in MLB Pipeline's preseason top 100 list. His 47-spot jump is the fifth-highest from those rankings to the current batch.
The 21-year-old opened the season in Single-A South Bend before earning a promotion to Double-A Tennessee in June. In 69 games between the two affiliates, he's slashing .284/.401/.542 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs.
Davis was also named MVP of the 2021 MLB Futures Game, hitting two home runs.
Lefty Brailyn Marquez is the only other Cubs prospect on MLB Pipeline's latest list, checking it at No. 94. The 22-year-old was ranked No. 60 this spring but hasn't pitched this season.
Marquez, who made his MLB debut in the 2020 regular season finale, had COVID-19 in 2021 spring training, delaying his season. He then strained his shoulder during his buildup.
Catcher Miguel Amaya, ranked No. 89 this spring, is no longer in the top 100.
MLB Pipeline also released the Cubs' new top 30 prospects list, featuring Davis (No. 1), Marquez (No. 2), the club's 2021 draft picks and those acquired in the team's trade deadline selloff.
