The Cubs placed outfielder Clint Frazier (appendicitis) on the 10-day injured list Friday.

First baseman/outfielder Alfonso Rivas was recalled from Triple-A Iowa in a corresponding move.

"We're keeping him in our thoughts," manager David Ross said of Frazer.

Frazier, whom the Cubs signed to a one-year deal over the offseason, has appeared in 10 games this season, seeing time in left field, designated hitter and as a pinch-hitter.

He holds a .143/.250/.238 slash line through 24 plate appearances.

In another roster move, the Cubs outrighted outfielder Greg Deichmann to Iowa. They designated him for assignment last week.

Alec Mills to make rehab start, Wade Miley bullpen

Alec Mills will make a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Saturday, and Wade Miley was slated to throw another bullpen session Friday.

Mills opened the season on the injured list with a low back strain. He's been ramping up in Arizona and was scheduled to throw live batting practice in Arizona on Tuesday.

Miley began the season on the IL with left elbow inflammation that popped up in spring training. He did not appear in a spring game.

Miley threw around 25-30 pitches in a bullpen session Tuesday and said after he felt "really good."

"I feel like I'm moving in the right direction for sure," Miley said Tuesday.

Miley likely will need to go on a rehab assignment before joining the Cubs.

Shortstop Andrelton Simmons (right shoulder) is continuing to throw and hit in Arizona. He also started the season on the IL.
