Ross has hilarious pitching strategy for red-hot Acuña

Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. is on fire at the plate right now. On fire, as in he's hitting .442 with seven home runs through 13 games entering Friday.

Acuña is one of the toughest matchups for opposing pitchers in the game right now and the Cubs will have their hands full with the young star at Wrigley Field this weekend. But manager David Ross may have the strategy to keep Acuña at bay.

"We're gonna throw knuckleballs to him," Ross quipped to a reporter during Friday's pregame Zoom session. "I think that's going to be our plan, really get outside of the box."

Ross is obviously joking and mentioned he isn't going to give away the Cubs' strategy for Acuña publicly. But he also was very complimentary of the 23-year-old off to a torrid start this season.

"I think the main thing for us is this guy's locked in and one of the best players in baseball right now," Ross said. "You've got to execute your pitches.

"You've got to assess the game in the moment and how to attack a really good player that's at the top of his game right now."

Knuckleballs or no knuckleballs, Acuña's plate appearances will be entertaining no matter what this weekend.
