Wrigley Field will soon be one step closer to full capacity crowds.

The Cubs announced Thursday they are increasing fan capacity at Wrigley to 60 percent later this month, starting May 28 — the opener of a three-game weekend series against the Reds.

Tickets for games May 28-June 2 will go on sale next Tuesday, May 18, at 10 a.m. CT on cubs.com. They will be available in pods up to six people, with at least one open seat between pods.

The club also announced the city and state is requiring they designate an area specifically for fully vaccinated fans for next week's four-game series against the Nationals.

Tickets in the upper section of the center field bleachers will be sold at full capacity, without social distancing. Fans who purchase tickets there will be required to present proof of vaccination and a photo ID.

Tickets for those games in that section go on sale Thursday at 3 p.m. CT at $20, plus taxes and fees.

The Cubs' health and safety protocols for fans will remain until further notice. Fans 2 years or older are required to wear face coverings unless actively eating or drinking.

Sixty percent capacity will be the largest at Wrigley since the end of the 2019 season. After playing with no fans during the 60-game 2020 season, the Cubs have hosted fans at 25 percent capacity through the first six weeks this season.

Thursday's news is in line with Mayor Lori Lightfoot saying earlier this month Chicago is on track to be "fully open" by Fourth of July weekend.

The Cubs follow the Brewers and Cardinals in NL Central clubs increasing fan capacity this week.
