Cubs injury update: Kris Bryant still out of lineup, David Ross being cautious

Share

Kris Bryant remains out of the Cubs starting lineup Friday with his left wrist and ring finger soreness.

Bryant jammed his wrist diving in the outfield on Wednesday and was scratched from Thursday's starting lineup. Cubs manager David Ross said Bryant took swings after Thursday's game and "there were some positives in that" but woke up a "little stiff" on Friday.

The Cubs are exercising caution with Bryant's ailment. He will be available off the bench Friday if things go well in his pregame routine.

"It can really create bad habits in just one game where you’re thinking about how your hand or your knee or a small sprain or bruise or something that may be bothering you," Ross said. "I just want to take that off his plate, give him another day to get treatment, see how it feels.

"I don’t think it’s a huge concern but I just want to use some caution."
