Jake Arrieta tried to pitch through a stomach bug during Friday’s start against the Giants, an 8-5 loss in San Francisco, the Cubs right-hander said postgame.
“Apparently, what I had for lunch today made me pretty sick,” he said. “I threw up before the game and then a few times after I came out of the game.
“I was really weak. I tried to go out there and do what I could.”

Arrieta, 35, pitched two innings, giving up six runs on six hits to the Giants, all coming in the second frame. Five of those tallies came on a pair of San Francisco home runs.
Friday was Arrieta's shortest start of the season and the second-most runs he's allowed through 10 starts. He said he didn't consider skipping the start.
"I thought I was capable of going out there and doing a little bit more," Arrieta added. "I didn't really have my legs underneath me. Just not a great day."
