Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer has agreed to terms on a new five-year deal, the team announced Monday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hoyer has served as the club’s general manger since 2011, when he reunited with former president of baseball operations Theo Epstein. The pair also worked closely together in Boston, in similar roles. Epstein announced last week that he was stepping down from his position and leaving the Cubs. The club immediately named Hoyer his successor.

“He really, truly does not need me over his shoulder this next year,” Epstein said in his farewell press conference, “while we finish off a transition that in a lot of respects has been years in the making.”

In 2016, both Hoyer and Epstein signed five-year extensions with the Cubs that would have run through the 2021 season.

Along with his intimate knowledge of the Cubs front office, Hoyer has previous experience leading a baseball operations department. Prior to joining the Cubs, Hoyer was the Padres’ general manager for the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Hoyer is entering his 20th season in baseball operations.
