Steele leaves game vs. Nationals with hamstring ailment

Share

Cubs reliever Justin Steele exited Thursday's game against the Nationals with right hamstring tightness.

Steele attempted a couple warmup pitches in the top of the seventh before manager David Ross and a trainer came to the mound to check on him. He exited after throwing 1 1/3 innings with three strikeouts.

Steele, 25, batted for himself in the bottom of the sixth, reaching first base after bunting into a fielder's choice. He reached third after back-to-back singles by Joc Pederson and Anthony Rizzo.

The young lefty has made a strong impression in 11 appearances this season. Steele's ERA stands at 2.03, to go along with 21 strikeouts and just seven walks.
