Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant could return from the injured list as soon as Tuesday at Pittsburgh.
Bryant has been out for two weeks due to a combination of a sprained left ring finger and a left wrist injection. But he and Steven Souza Jr. (right hamstring strain) have been taking batting practice, alternating between Wrigley Field and the Cubs’ South Bend alternate site, since at least Friday.
“I don't want to make any announcements about tomorrow” Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said Monday, “but I don't think that's out of the out of the picture for either guy.”
Both Bryant and Souza were scheduled to take live batting practice in South Bend on Monday.
“When you have a player for this long,” Hoyer said of Bryant, “you get to know them, I think it allows you to have that trust where, 'You tell us when you when you feel great, and we don't want you back if it's lingering.’”
According to Hoyer, Monday's session went well and Bryant’s feedback was promising.
