Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks dominated on Opening Day and Major League Baseball took notice.

Monday, MLB named Hendricks the NL Player of the Week for July 23-26. The right-hander tossed a complete game shutout on Friday, striking out nine while walking none.

Hendricks became the first Cub since Bill Bonham in 1974 to toss an Opening Day nine-inning shutout. It was the first of its kind in MLB since Clayton Kershaw's back in 2013.
