New Cubs relief pitcher Jeremy Jeffress gave back to healthcare workers this week by bringing a taste of the East Coast to Arizona.

Jeffress drove his food truck, JJ’s Bread and Butter, to Banner Health in Arizona to feed the healthcare providers who work there.

Jeffress has lived in Arizona for nearly a decade, and said Banner Health is particularly important to him, as they’ve helped treat Jeffress’s epilepsy.

“Just to help these guys out and show my appreciation for what they’re doing,” Jeffress said. “Because I know that they’re stuck in there all day helping these people out with their coronavirus, and stuff like that, whatever the case may be.

“We appreciate them.”

Banner Health released a video saying gestures like this truly do help raise the morale of the healthcare workers.

"Part of my service line are COVID units," Veronica Carmack, director of nursing at Banner Health, said. "And they're tired, they're stressed. And to feel the love and support from the community and from everyone around, it just means the world to them. It brightens their day.

"The food trucks, the coffee, just all these little things make a really big difference in the course of their day."

Jeffress initially started his food truck back in 2019 when he was pitching for Milwaukee. He got the truck up and running with the help from Breedlove’s food truck-- one of Jeffress’s favorites from his hometown in South Boston, VA., according to MLB.com.

"It's something that is a passion of mine -- when I'm cooking," Jeffress said. "It's just seeing everybody come together in one place, and just be happy for even just a couple moments. And just to understand that they're appreciated, that their work is not going unnoted."
