A second Cubs outfielder has landed on the injured list with a hamstring injury.

Prior to Thursday's game against Washington, Jason Heyward hit the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.

In a corresponding move, the club recalled outfielder Nick Martini from Triple-A Iowa.

Heyward, 31, exited Wednesday's game against the Nationals with tightness in the same hamstring. Catcher P.J. Higgins pinch hit for him in the fourth inning.

"The hamstrings are always iffy, but it seems to be on the milder side," manager David Ross said of Heyward pregame Thursday.

Heyward has gotten off to a slow start at the plate this season, batting .183/.254/.341 in 39 games.

The Cubs placed fourth-outfielder Jake Marisnick on the 10-day IL last Tuesday with a right hamstring strain. However, Ross said Tuesday Marisnick is "doing well" in his recovery and started lightly running.

In other Cubs injury news, Anthony Rizzo is back in the starting lineup Thursday. He missed Wednesday's game after exiting Tuesday's with low back tightness.
