Cubs to play rare home Friday night game in June

In a rare occurrence, the Cubs will play a Friday home night game next month, June 18 vs. the Marlins.

Friday matinees at Wrigley Field are synonymous with the Cubs, and the game against Miami was originally scheduled for 1:20 p.m. But the club announced Thursday it's now scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Cubs' June 17 road game against the Mets is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. CT. Pushing back the June 18 game avoids the Cubs facing a quick turnaround vs. Miami after returning to Chicago early that morning.

The Cubs played the first ever regular season Friday night game at Wrigley on Sept. 8, 2017 under similar circumstances.

Majority of their home weekend games were played at night in 2020, although that was related to COVID-19 travel logistics and not needing to consider fan attendance and overcrowding in Wrigleyville.

The Cubs also announced June 13's game against the Cardinals, originally scheduled for 1:20 p.m., will be played on Sunday Night Baseball. First pitch is 6:08 p.m.
