David Bote's future with the Cubs looks pretty clear.

After initial reports, the Cubs confirmed a contract extension with Bote. It is a five-year deal through 2024, with two more option years.

Bote, who was drafted by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2012 draft, hit .239/.319/.408 last season, his first in the majors. He was scheduled to make $561,500 in 2019, his last year under contract with Chicago.

He was behind one of the most memorable moments of the Cubs' 2018 season, hitting a 2-out, 2-strike walkoff grand slam against the Nationals on Sunday Night Baseball:

Bote has been one of the Cubs' lone bright spots thus far, hitting .364/.462/.455 through the first 4 games of the 2019 season. He's split his time pretty evenly around the infield, logging 34 plate appearances at second base and 14 at both shortstop and third.
