Cubs trade outfielder Ramirez to Rays

The Cubs traded depth outfielder Harold Ramirez to the Rays for minor league infielder Esteban Quiroz, the club announced Friday night.

The trade clears some of the logjam on the Cubs' outfield depth chart. They had seven outfielders in the picture for a spot on the Opening Day roster, and Ramirez, 27, appeared to be on the outside looking in.

Ramirez, whom the Cubs acquired from Cleveland for cash in a pre-lockout trade, arrived to camp Friday after visa issues delayed his travel.

Quiroz, 30, has played 11 professional seasons between the Mexican League and minor leagues. Tampa Bay signed him to a minor-league deal last spring.
