Cubs' Twitter trolls Arrieta for old Rizzo pitching tweet

Cubs

A lot has changed since July 2015. The Cubs have made five trips to the postseason, won a World Series, and had players win the NL Cy Young Award and NL MVP.

Oh, and their All-Star first baseman has also made two scoreless pitching appearances.

That last point is the key here. Following Wednesday's game against Atlanta, the Cubs' official Twitter account unearthed and reacted to a hilarious 2015 tweet from pitcher Jake Arrieta.

The context, of course, is Rizzo made the second pitching appearance of his career Wednesday — both of which were scoreless outings. He even struck out fellow first baseman and 2020 NL MVP Freddie Freeman on Wednesday.

Even funnier is Rizzo said Wednesday he's practiced his pitching routine at first base during warmups in recent years. Arrieta's response in that 2015 post was to a tweet of Rizzo doing just that.

Rizzo has a long way to go to match Arrieta's track record and accolades on the mound. But as it stands, the lefty holds a career 0.00 ERA in the big leagues.
