Cubs unveil rendering for Fergie Jenkins statue

Friday, the Cubs unveiled the rendering of a statue honoring Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins, which will be installed next season.

In April, the Cubs announced plans to honor Jenkins with a statue, the fifth outside of Wrigley Field, following Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Ron Santo and Harry Caray.

The Cubs said in April the plan was to unveil the statue on Opening Day 2022. They open the season March 31 in Cincinnati, and their home opener is April 4 against the Cardinals.

It's unclear where the statue will be located, although Jenkins said he hoped it would be near the Banks statue, located on Clark St. near Addison.

"Ernie was my roommate," Jenkins said in April. "It might be nice to be close to Ernie."

Jenkins pitched 10 seasons for the Cubs, winning the 1971 NL Cy Young Award in addition to making three All-Star teams. He's first in Cubs history in strikeouts, third in innings pitched and fifth in wins.

The Cubs also honored Jenkins this week. He joined the inaugural Cubs Hall of Fame class, unveiled on Thursday.
