Dodgers tie Cubs' MLB postseason record in NLCS Game 3

The Dodgers offense broke out in a big way in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Braves on Wednesday. Broke out, as in they scored 15 runs through three innings.

Nine of those tallies came via five home runs, including a grand slam by Max Muncy. You may be wondering if such an offensive performance has ever happened in the postseason. Well, in one regard, yes. But it's been a while.

The Cubs are the only other team to ever hit five long balls in a League Championship Series game, doing so way back in Game 1 of the 1984 NLCS against the Padres.

The Cubs beat San Diego 13-0 on Oct. 2, 1984 behind two home runs from Gary Matthews, and one each from Bob Dernier, Rick Sutcliffe and Ron Cey.

San Diego wound up winning that series 3-2, erasing a 2-0 deficit that extended the Cubs' pennant drought to 39 years. The Dodgers entered Wednesday trailing the NLCS 2-0.

Perhaps this game will spark a comeback and lead to a different outcome than the North Siders 36 years ago.
