Gov. Pritzker: MLB fans can return to Wrigley, Guaranteed Rate Field

Illinois announced it will allow fans back in the stands, if baseball returns to play this summer.

On Monday, Gov. J.B. Pritzker released revised guidelines for Phase 4 of reopening the state.

Included in that are recommendations for pro sports, which say “Outdoor spectator sports can resume with no more than 20% of seating capacity; concessions permitted with restrictions.”

This would clear the way for just over 8,000 fans to attend games at Wrigley Field and Guaranteed Rate Field.

Before any of this can happen, however, MLB and the MLBPA must agree on a plan for baseball to return this summer. If the two sides are able to come to an agreement, it doesn’t guarantee that an MLB plan will allow fans in the stands.

Since this only pertains to outdoor sports, hockey would not be included if Chicago is chosen as a host city for the NHL’s return to play.

Pritzker also said the entire state is on track to enter Phase 4 this Friday.
