With no baseball for the foreseeable future, Major League Baseball is hosting a virtual 29-game season on "MLB: The Show 20". Each club has one player representing them in three-inning games as they compete against one another for charity.
Ian Happ, the Cubs representative, made his debut on Monday night, going 3-1 against Blake Snell (Rays), Cole Tucker (Pirates), Matt Carpenter (Cardinals) and Tommy Kahnle (Yankees). Happ has a stoic outer shell but provided some entertaining commentary throughout the night. Here’s some of his best quotes:
Game 1 — vs. Snell
I’m no expert, but Snell may be as professional of a streamer you’ll see in MLB. He drubbed Happ 18-1, much to the Cubs outfielder’s shock:
“Is this like a normal thing?” — Happ on Snell hitting home runs early and often

“This is the craziest thing I’ve ever been a part of.”
MLB
“I think we’re losing viewership because people are so sad.”
“Oh my god, what an eye. That is just beautiful to watch.” — after drawing a four-pitch walk as himself
“This is a bloodbath, an absolute bloodbath.”
“It’s more important that Javy walked in this game.” — on Javier Báez, not known to draw many free passes in real life, walking
“Tell Snell we’ll see him in the playoffs.”
Game 2 — vs. Tucker
Happ bounced back vs. Tucker, securing a 3-2 win. One of his first quotes proved prophetic:
“We’re ready. That game was a fluke.” —on Game 1 loss
“What are you swinging at? Gah” —after striking out as himself
“It’s like the World Series. Yes! Oh my god, oh my god.” —as a 5-3 putout from Kris Bryant to Anthony Rizzo clinched a 3-2 win
Game 3 — vs. Carpenter
The good vibes continued in Happ’s third matchup, a 2-0 win over Carpenter.
“Who should I start? Jaw-nee? Jaw-nee.” — on choosing Jon Lester to start
“Jaw-nee Les-tah.” — after Lester shutout the Cardinals 1-2-3 in the first inning
“Dex definitely doesn’t wear leopard skin batting gloves.” — on Dexter Fowler’s in-game attire
“We got a guy. He’s a player. Good throw.” — after making a catch as himself in center field
“There’s Nico. Thanks for the bunt, Nico. That’s huge.” — Happ to Cubs infielder Nico Hoerner — his roommate in Arizona — after virtual Hoerner put down a sacrifice bunt

“Someone send me a ‘W’ flag.”
Game 4 — vs. Kahnle
Happ wrapped things up with a 4-1 win, and we saw some of his better commentary on the night during this game:
“Rizz, 21 speed. That’s tough.” — on Rizzo’s in-game speed rating
“Maybe that was my mistake in the first game. I didn’t start Nico. That was messed up.”
“Nico, you’re slow. Do some sprints outside, now.” — after Hoerner singled
“I’m gonna text him right after this and tell him I love him.” — after Jason Heyward robbed a home run
“Oh my god what a play by the center fielder. That guy’s so fast.” — after making a nice catch as himself in center field
“You’re on the cover, Javy!” — after Báez turned a slick double play
"Give J-Hey the MVP. 3-1 on the day after a terrible first game. That’s the turnaround the people needed."
"I'm gonna see him in the playoffs and he's not gonna know what hit him." — on facing Snell in the league's postseason
If Monday is a sign for what's to come, Happ's streams could be can't-miss viewing from here on out.
