Joe Maddon will reportedly interview for the Los Angeles Angels' managerial opening ‘early this week'

In a week which will see the Cubs continue their managerial search in earnest, Joe Maddon is wasting no time sizing up a potential suitor, as well. Sunday afternoon, Buster Olney of ESPN and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic/FOX reported that Maddon will interview for the Angels’ open managerial position ‘early this week’:

Maddon and the Angels have seemed a match made in heaven since before it was even official that he and the Cubs would part ways. Maddon, as Rosenthal has reported frequently, spent 31 years in the Angels organization as a player and manager. Despite an abundance of managerial openings across MLB, this is the only interview that Maddon has officially booked to this point.

On September 30, the Angels fired manager Brad Ausmus just one year into a three-year contract on the heels of a disappointing 72-90 season. The team hasn’t made the playoffs since 2014, when they were swept in the ALDS by the Kansas City Royals.

The Cubs, meanwhile are set to have Joe Girardi, Will Venable and David Ross interview for their open managerial spot this week, and interviewed Mark Loretta last Thursday. Stay tuned for more updates on Maddon and the Cubs’ parallel searches, both of which are sure to have league-wide impact.
