Kris Bryant and Tyler Chatwood look like themselves in first rehab start

Kris Bryant and Tyler Chatwood started their rehab stints Monday night in Omaha, Nebraska with Triple-A Iowa, losing in a close game by the score of 7-6. But the good news is Kris Bryant looked healthy and well, showcasing his new and improved swing.

The former league MVP failed to register a hit but still managed to score two runs on a walk and a hard-hit ball that the left fielder dropped for an error, while almost going deep in the first inning on a deep fly ball. He'd finish the night going 0-3 with a walk, a strikeout, and 2 runs scored and was eventually lifted in the 9th for Chris Gimenez.

However, starter Tyler Chatwood didn’t have a promising game getting pulled in the 4th inning after allowing 2 runs in the 2nd inning in the most Tyler Chatwood-y way possible. Chatwood walked the bases loaded and ended up walking in two runs before striking out former Cub Jorge Soler to end the inning.

Chatwood threw 37 pitches in the inning, with only 12 of those pitches registering as strikes, as the 28-year-old continued to struggle to find the strike zone. He finished the night throwing 77 pitches, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, 5 BB, and 3 Ks in 4.1 IP.

It’s unlikely that Chatwood will return to the Cubs until sometime after rosters expand in September, but Bryant may be a different story. Bryant and the I-Cubs head back home to Des Moines Tuesday but if he has another productive night he could return to the Cubs as early as Thursday this week. Cross your fingers, Cubs fans.
