After years of his name being in trade rumors, it happened.
Bryant was with the Cubs in Washington when he found out about the trade. Video showed him taking a call in the Cubs dugout before Friday's game against the Nationals.
The four-time All-Star appeared emotional after hanging up the phone. He and Cubs hitting coach Anthony Iapoce shared a hug and Bryant appeared to wipe away tears.
The trade ends Bryant's memorable seven-season run with the Cubs in which he helped bring a championship to the North Side. The Cubs made five postseason appearances after Bryant debuted in 2015.
Bryant made four All-Star teams with the Cubs and took home NL MVP honors in 2016. He was a cornerstone player for the franchise, and seeing him go is a tough, emotional pill for fans to swallow.
