The Cubs have been gutting out wins lately, with series wins over the Twins, Tigers and Reds prior to their current series with Giants. The offense has needed to wake up, even more so after a tough 2-0 win in which they were blanked by Derek Holland through six innings, before getting after him in the seventh inning.

Bryant’s return couldn’t have come at a better time.

During his rehab stint with the Tennessee Smokies, Bryant went 2-6 in two games, with a home run and three RBI.

Bryant returned to the Cubs lineup batting third, and didn’t take long to make his mark. In the top of the fifth inning Bryant sent a two-run shot to deep center field, over the outstretched arms of Steven Duggar. The homerun represented Bryant’s 11th on the year, and his first against San Francisco this season.

His last MLB home run prior to Wednesday came on June 15th against the the Cardinals in a 13-5 win. Bryant had four RBI in the victory.

Prior to Wednesday’s game, Bryant was batting .281 with a career-low 1.5 WAR. If he has more days like Wednesday, that is sure to turnaround quickly.
