Marlins postpone Monday's Orioles game after COVID-19 outbreak within Miami's team

It took one series for MLB to be brought to its knees with a COVID-19 outbreak.

The Miami Marlins had numerous players and coaches test positive for COVID-19 after a season-opening series against the Phillies in Philadelphia.

The Marlins planned for some players and personnel to remain behind in Philadelphia while others would return to Miami on Monday morning before their own home opener.

As a result, the Marlins home opener against the Baltimore Orioles will be postponed.

The ripple of this could be immediate. The Marlins had multiple positive cases yesterday and played the Phillies, who now welcome the Yankees to the same ballpark and will use the same visiting clubhouse the Marlins used.

Tonight's Yankees-Phillies game has been postponed, and Major League Baseball is meeting today to plot out a path forward.

The Cubs are slated to travel to Cincinnati to play the Reds, who had a player test positive for COVID-19. Hamilton County in Ohio was designated a red alert status, the second highest possible on the state's COVID-19 risk scale.

The Cubs won't be able to isolate in Cincinnati, needing assistance with lodging, food, transportation and even the visiting clubhouse staff. The Yankees are bringing their own clubhouse staff to Philadelphia after the Phillies quarantined their own visiting clubhouse staff.
