Lockout further pushes back baseball schedule

It looks like Major League Baseball is poised to cancel another week of regular season games.

The start of the spring training exhibition slate has been delayed until at least March 18, according to the league's official website.

MLB has made no official announcement since commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday spring training will start no sooner than March 8 and the first week of the regular season has been canceled.

It almost certainly means an additional week of games will be lost in April, although MLB as of late afternoon Friday had yet to make a formal announcement.

The Cubs and White Sox are scheduled to play in Glendale March 18; the Cubs have a split-squad day, with another game scheduled against the Guardians.

MLB last week pushed back the start of spring games to no sooner than March 8. The league's self-imposed deadline for a new labor agreement passed Tuesday without a deal, leading to Manfred delaying the start of the regular season.
